Bagpipe Solutions Book 8 - This tutor book is the eighth in the series and has been designed to help the piper make the transition to being able to compete in a Grade 4 solo piping contest and/or compete in a Grade 5 pipe band contest.
To achieve these goals, you will develop your ability to: -Play the technical requirements needed for this level and increase your speed and fingering dexterity. -Pitch your pipe chanter and tune your Low A, C and E so that they are in line with the drones. -Complete all the technical and musical requirements on your bagpipe.
You will learn: -How to play and express a strathspey and a reel. -How to learn a tune from scratch and fix an existing tune. -What a judge listens for in a solo and pipe band contest. -About the factors that affect tone and how to achieve a good tonal balance on your bagpipe. -How to prepare your bagpipe for a competition or performance. -Pipe band and instrument drill and the expectations of being a member of a pipe band. -Some tips to help when you perform and how to deal with anxiety.
Finally, you will: -Improve your understanding and ability to play the common rhythmical passages in a 6/8 march, 2/4 march, strathspey, and reel. -Select your Grade 4 solo competition 2/4 march from options provided. -Be able to play as a soloist, one: -4-parted 2/4 quick march suitable for a grade 4 solo contest. -2-parted strathspey, reel and 6/8 march — at a grade 4 solo standard.
