Bagpipe Solutions Book 8 - This tutor book is the eighth in the series and has been designed to help the piper make the transition to being able to compete in a Grade 4 solo piping contest and/or compete in a Grade 5 pipe band contest.

To achieve these goals, you will develop your ability to: -Play the technical requirements needed for this level and increase your speed and fingering dexterity. -Pitch your pipe chanter and tune your Low A, C and E so that they are in line with the drones. -Complete all the technical and musical requirements on your bagpipe.

You will learn: -How to play and express a strathspey and a reel. -How to learn a tune from scratch and fix an existing tune. -What a judge listens for in a solo and pipe band contest. -About the factors that affect tone and how to achieve a good tonal balance on your bagpipe. -How to prepare your bagpipe for a competition or performance. -Pipe band and instrument drill and the expectations of being a member of a pipe band. -Some tips to help when you perform and how to deal with anxiety.

Finally, you will: -Improve your understanding and ability to play the common rhythmical passages in a 6/8 march, 2/4 march, strathspey, and reel. -Select your Grade 4 solo competition 2/4 march from options provided. -Be able to play as a soloist, one: -4-parted 2/4 quick march suitable for a grade 4 solo contest. -2-parted strathspey, reel and 6/8 march — at a grade 4 solo standard.

Bagpipe Solutions Piobaireachd Book - This tutor book is the first in the six volume Piobaireachd series and has been designed to help you understand what Piobaireachd is and to teach you how to play your first Piobaireachd. To achieve this goal, you will: - Be given a basic introduction to the origins and history of Piobaireachd - Be taught how to play the technical requirements inherent in Piobaireachd - Learn about the structure of Piobaireachd, including the variations that can be found in any Piobaireachd - Learn how to phrase and express a Piobaireachd - Be able to play one elementary Piobaireachd – that can be used in an entry level Piobaireachd competition Note: We recommend that you not begin training on this tutor book until you have successfully completed all the requirements contained in our Instructional Tutor for Light Music, Volume 7. Each lesson will contain a series of narrative notes along with a practical application of the material covered. The objective is for you to be able to play your Piobaireachd at a level that will allow you to compete in an entry level (i.e. Grade 5) solo contest.

The Bagpipe Solutions Kit includes book 1 and a Pipers' Choice regular length practice chanter with a reed. This kit is everything you need to get started playing the bagpipes. Book 1 – Preliminary Level This tutor book is the first in the light music series and has been designed to give the outright beginner sufficient exposure to the art of learning how to play the bagpipe so that they can decide if they would like to continue before any large expenses are involved. By the completion of the level, you will: - Be able to maintain (at a basic level) your practice chanter and practice chanter reed - Understand basic elements of music theory - Be able to reproduce basic simple time rhythms - Understand some of the critical aspects inherent with playing on a practice chanter and with playing bagpipe music in general - Be able to read the nine notes played on a bagpipe - Be able to apply good fingering technique when playing your practice chanter - Be able to play simple scalic exercises on your practice chanter - Understand how to achieve a good tone when playing your practice chanter - Be able to complete a basic level of ear training - Know some key exercises to stretch your fingers, hands, shoulders and forearms On average, a student should be able to complete all of the requirements contained in this tutor book within one to two months. There are no prerequisites to begin the training at this level. Anyone who has an interest in learning how to play the bagpipe, regardless of whether they have had any previous bagpipe training or any musical training for that matter, will be able to work their way through this volume.
